My Contentment Project

I started listening to “The Happiness Project” today on Libby. It’s part of the fall reading challenge for work. I’ve also recently read 5 or 6 books listed on my good reads.

Rather than focusing on being content instead of happiness I thought about doing the project. The way I see it I’m a bit past my midlife as mid life was based on the average life expectancy of 76 for women in the United States. That would put me at 16 years beyond the middle and the fact that a broken leg decreases that average by 7 years. Which means about 15 more years of life left for me to be content. And live with peace and serenity.

On my long walk with Fritz tonight while Martin was at work I thought about contentment

And gratitude

About how the two are intertwined

The more you look for things that bring the feeling of being contented the more you find

The look at the sky kind of things

The stop and pet the dog kind of things

The listening to an audiobook and enjoying a beautiful evening kind of things

And I wondered

15 years

Of laughter

And love

And long and winding roads like the path we found last night while Divy was at ski team training

That lead to new places and sunshine on the mountains

And the smell after rain

2 geese on the pond

The clouds at sunset

Covered bridges

And long conversations
