A New Day

Celebrate

My momma always told me to choose my friends wisely. She was right...having a few true friends by your side can make all the difference in the world.

A genuine friend yearns for your happiness and success just as much as you do.  She will be the first to celebrate when you get that job in Labor & Delivery, or finish nursing school, even if she does not. A true friend will never be jealous of your good fortune, but rather rejoice with you.

True love and friendship means wanting the absolute best for the other person.

I can separate true friends from friendly acquaintances by their ability to spare me embarrassment.  If you've got a bat in the cave, a real friend won't be afraid to tell you.  She will also let you know that your button is undone, lettuce is stuck between your teeth and your singing is better off left in the privacy of your own shower.

Sadly, gossip doesn't end in middle school; even adults are susceptible to it.  Real friends would never talk about you unkindly behind your back, or speak critically of you to others.  You know you've got a winner when you have a friend who will stick up for you anywhere.

{Cohort #16}

Difficult life circumstances like divorce, illness, and crisis tend to make many people uncomfortable. They want to help, but are unsure of how to  act.

A true friend will never let you experience hard times alone.  He or she will be there at your doorstep with a warm meal, hold your hand while you cry, or clean your toilets when you are unable to clean them yourself.  You may have many friends out there, but a true friend will never disappear.  A true friend will just do, instead of asking what can be done.

Finally, you know you have a true, bosom friend when you can be 100% yourself around them.  An authentic friend would go to dinner with you even on your worst hair day, with a spill on your dress, and a candle on your head.  A true friend is comfortable to be around, accepts you for who you are, and would never ask you to change.

Do you have a true BFF?

{I do, and I feel so lucky they were there to hear the Florence Nightingale Pledge at the pinning ceremony last night}
